George M. Turner Jr. - Biography
George M. Turner Jr., born August 22 nd, 1977 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to George M. Turner Sr. and Karen L. Turner.George grew up in the nearby town of Windber where he attended public school until graduation in 1996 when he moved to Tucson to study pharmacy at the University of Arizona. While taking a painting class at the University he made the decision to change his career and study Fine Art. From the fall of 1997 until graduation in June 2001, Mr. Turner studied painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design while selling his art and creating commissioned art. Upon completion of undergraduate studies George moved to the small town of Central City, Pennsylvania where he continued to paint while constructing an art studio next to his house.
Additionally, Mr. Turner became very active with the arts in the nearby city of Johnstown. This includes serving as President of the Allied Artists of Johnstown Pennsylvania, working with the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts as a Rostered Artist in Residence, and displaying art at various solo and group exhibits in the community and at a national level.
You can find the work of George M. Turner Jr. on display at the Windber Research Institute, Robert Morris College, University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, and the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, to name a few. George creates painting and sculpture in a variety of material ranging from bronze and polyurethane casting to oil and acrylic painting. The subject matter of George’s art is based on the exploration of intrinsic design apparent in the microscopic, everyday life, and the macrocosmic.
Presently George is working on the ‘’Theory of Possible Spaces’’ and ‘’Measures by Means of Mankind’’ series while living in New York City.
